Due to overwhelming demand Razz , here you can write any paradox's you might have.

Ill start;

This is a classic for all you physics wizzs out there.

What would happen if you went back in time, and killed your father?

Seeing as i am kind of a physics whiz there are ways out of that paradox due to our increased understanding of science. Thus making it not a paradox anymore.

My favourite paradox is the number 0.99999999 continued to infinity is equal to 1.

Therefore 0.999...=1

Yes...I know, this paradox might not work, becuase if time travel is possible (which it probably is) then "time traveling" is really traveling between demensions. So if you killed your father, their would be no effect on you because the man would be in another demension.

P.S Yes this implies their are an infinity amount of universes...

Paradoxes Empty Re: Paradoxes

OOOO... this topic should be called, paradoxes and catch 22s.

my example of a catch 22:
There's a category 10 hurricane(10 because 5 doesn't sound as cool), you can stop it, but if you do the government will blow up the area that the hurricane would have hit, if you let the hurricane run it's path, it will level any building in its way due to the fact that it has 10 and category in its name.

Another spin on paradoxes:
You go back in time and meet yourself in order to stop a major catastrophe
you fail to stop it, so you and you go back in time to meet, well, YOU! So you, you ,and you attempt to stop it, yet fail again, so you, you, and you go back in time to meet you in attempt to stop it, etc... (assume that it is a catastrophe that cannot be stopped)

Well then wouldn't you learn that you cant stop the disaster and stop going back in time? Catch-22s are basically you are screwed whatever you do, so might as well let whatever it is run its course than being blamed for it which are what humans usually do.
But here comes the paradox/catch 22: humans will also blame you because one you didnt stop the hurricane and 2 if you did they blame you for stopping the hurricane and leting the government blow up the place. So whatever you do its a catch 22, you are screwed haha because of humanity's need to put a blame on someone.

Anyways on time travel the answer to that is either the infinitely amount of dimensions or that history has already planned your arrival and if you tried you couldnt kill your father. History knows that you will come from the future and try to kill your father. So this in itself kind of provides a paradox. However, the true answer to this question is that you can only go back to the point when you first turned your "time machine" on.

For example if you turned the time machine on tomorrow you will only be able too accesss any point in the future after tomorrow nothing before it.
I hope it makes sense Smile

Yep... this is true, forgot to mention...also another paradox

Not really a paradox thats pretty solvable. Only one of those conditions can exist. If there is unstoppable force then there cannot be an immovable object and vice versa. If you think about it is impossible for both of these creatures to exist. Btw you can do this with any two extremes of a thing.

For example, if someone who never died caught a incurable deadly disease. Same logic as above would apply here.

My favourite paradox: "This is statement is a lie". Very simple but yet very paradoxically in nature.

The pizza company wouldn't gain as much profit by filling the entire box up with pizza, but some companies are nice and make square pizzas to fill this box.

Also, it is probably a lot more costly to make a round box. You have a nice little folding machine that doesn't need any glue, just some sharp edges and plates of metal to make your box, I would bet a round one would require a lot more human effort, and moving pieces.

In other words, for economical reasons.

(how close to right was I smarter people?)

Here's a paradox that you can do on just about any computer:

count =1

1 count=count+1

print count

goto 1

Pizza boxes are easier to carry when they are square, you get a better grip on them and it is easier to stack and carry a stack of square boxes than round boxes.

Dehdesh is absolutely right it is also for economic reasons.

a=a+1 isnt really a paradox its what computers use to solve problems and to function. Disregarding rules of algebra the variable a can be anything even itself.

As i stated before computers use paradox to function, so that could and could not be considered a paradox depending on the different perspectives.
