It is hard to stay on top of processors, but supposedly the I7 was, and still is a nice processor. Would anyone happen to know if there are any better processors out yet, or is the I7 still "The Bees Knees"?

Well it appears so lol, unless you want to go for an AMD one, but i recommend intel. Also you have to think about whether your gonna be packing DDR2 or DDR3 ram, DDR2 is definintly the economic choice.

Well, it seems the asus motherboard, ASUS P6T Deluxe, that fits it (and allows bios modification) uses DDR2 ram, and has 6 slots in which to insert plenty of ram. The Intel board, Intel BOXDX58SO, only has 4 slots for ddr3 (but it also allows bios modding, but it seems some of the selections are a little bit buggy).

So, the Intel I7 and the ASUS p6t deluxe seem to be the way to go (with a nice 64bit OS of course).

My curiosity was intrigued when I was looking through barebones kits on tiger direct.
